In Search Of Art

The expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. A collaboration of four women to create something unique… for the love of art. In ore of each other’s work and talents, four women gave each other the freedom to create and see what eventuated.

How did the project start?

Simply put, I had a conversation with Vicky, she said make something you love and ill photograph it. “Not to match anything, not to accessorise a gown, it will be all about your piece”. This was so trusting and liberating to hear from someone I hadn’t even met before. After years of diligently making bridal pieces to a subdued Australian bridal market , this allowed me to dare to dream. I was ecstatic with the thought, I had ideas flowing as quick as lightning, and I had an excuse to indulge in a concept piece I’d been brewing for some time.

What was the process to create the main piece?

Antlers were chosen as an ode to McQueen, who’s creative vision is so inspiring. I chose the pallet of Aqua and gold. Aqua from the colours of the ocean, ever changing and uncontrollable. Gold from the Egyptians, where my passion for the craft of jewellery began. The rest flowed as easily as my conversation with Vicky. Years of castings and design techniques lay before me on the floor of my studio and in my mind as memories. A culmination of pieces of my creative life were joined together, these techniques, only known to me were one by one executed as the piece came together.

How did you all join to collaborate?

The flux and flow of the project was magical. Vicky invited Lizzie, who has such a majestic approach and wealth of talent. Just being around this woman lifts my spirit and creative urges. Lizzie invited Alice, who was as equally important link in the concept. We had struggled finding the right look but when I saw Alice, well let’s say she exceeded my high expectations. I was so honoured to have such amazing women all love the piece and eager to be involved. Trust was huge in this shoot, Id been allowed to create something free from restrain and now I got to see them both do the same.

Shoots can often be manic, how did the day flow?

Seamlessly the elements all came together Quietly they sat down and created the look, layer by layer the detail grew, I watched in amazement as Lizzie painted her canvas. Alice emerged and I was loving it. Vicky had set up and it was her turn, she fly’s around the room bare foot, like a ball of inspired energy. Camera in hand at all times, she explains what she’s thinking and brings you into her excitement. I know it all looked good but when she shows you back of camera you can see the next level she goes too and what only she can capture.. This woman is amazing, such an creative artist, she is in her element. We work together throughout the day changing a few different looks. The mood is quiet and calm, I can feel myself grinning ear to ear knowing what has just happened, and knowing the images are insane. The last element is now left to Vicky. She is renowned as a genius in post production and these images are no exception. The tone of the skin, the colours and depth of light, all tweaked to her uber high standard.

We were all in search of art that day, and we found it.
